Rustic Potato and Minced Pork Gratin

  • Ingredients:
    • 1.5 kg potatoes, peeled and sliced
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
    • 1 raw sweet red pepper, chopped
    • 1 kg minced pork
    • 300 g canned green peas, drained
    • 300 g tomatoes in their own juice, chopped
    • 1 chicken egg
    • 100 g hard mozzarella cheese, grated
    • Vegetable oil for frying
    • Salt, meat seasoning, dried ground sweet paprika to taste

 

  • Directions:
    1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F).
    2. In a large frying pan, heat some vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and sweet red pepper. Cook until softened.
    3. Add the minced pork to the pan and cook until browned. Season with salt, meat seasoning, and paprika.
    4. Stir in the tomatoes and green peas. Cook for a few more minutes until everything is well combined.
    5. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Season with salt.
    6. Spread the minced meat mixture over the potatoes.
    7. Top with the remaining potato slices and season with salt.
    8. In a small bowl, beat the egg and pour it evenly over the top layer of potatoes.
    9. Sprinkle the grated mozzarella cheese on top.
    10. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 40 minutes.
    11. Remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes or until the top is golden and crispy.
    12. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
